Today, we look at who is Catturd on Twitter.
With over 1.3 Million Twitter followers (as of March 2023) Catturd (or @catturd2)is one of the most followed conservative Twitter influencers. He has recently come to prominence, especially for always interacting and sparking discussions with Twitter owner Elon Musk. Catturd is also a novelist.
According to publicly accessible information, Catturd began using Twitter around 2018. His account has grown in popularity over time, and he has been accused of disseminating conspiracy theories and anti-vaccine rhetoric.
He has also been accused of participating in almost every rightwing online culture skirmish and real-time event.
Catturd, for example, posted about the 2023 U.S. gas stove prohibition hoax as shown hereunder on January 12th, 2023, and received over 32,000 likes in just over a week.
Catturd rose to prominence in 2020, when then-President Donald Trump retweeted the account at least seven times, which Catturd celebrated in a tweet (seen below, left) on December 1st, 2020, which garnered over 42,000 likes.
He has shared confirmed falsehoods and claims about 2020 election theft, including one about Rudy Giuliani and a “mountain of evidence” that Trump retweeted on December 1st, garnering Catturd over 66,000 likes and widespread condemnation, including from @Patterico as shown hereunder. Catturd used his fame to secure an interview on Fox News in May 2021.
He is primarily a Twitter user, but he also has a website called ilovecatturd.com and has authored two novels, The Adventures of Cowfart and Rabbitskin.
Catturd Relationship with Donald Trump
Trump sent him a get-well greeting in May 2022 after he was admitted to the hospital in April 2022 for a gastrointestinal problem. @catturd2 shared that note in May, emphasizing how unique it was that the former president would offer such courtesy to “an old country, average person” like himself.
On October 27th, 2022, Catturd tweeted allegations that the algorithm arbitrarily censored their tweets after Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, expressing doubt about whether the new owner would promote fairness to trump supporters who have always felt targeted by the social media giant. (seen below). In a direct reply to this tweet, Elon Musk promised to check into the situation. The same day, Catturd tweeted that their following had grown by 7,000.
According to Trendsmap, between October 27 and October 30, 2022, Catturd’s total number of followers grew from about 840,000 to over 940,000. Catturd gained more followers as they engaged with Elon Musk more frequently, frequently by criticizing Twitter’s algorithm or content filtering.
The interaction with a more influential right-wing figure provided Catturd with more engagement and followers, continuing the pattern she had created with Trump. Catturd had 1.3 million followers by the end of January 2023, and they had established themselves as dependable Musk response person.
